The Old In-Out, Matthew Hay, 2009

My practice utilises textiles and crafts as mediums traditionally associated with women, juxtaposing traditional feminine connotations with controversial imagery in order to question people's expectations. My work challenges conventional stereotypes of both gender and medium. The fascination with voyeurism and people's private lives, through the internet, reality television and other other media is of specific interest to me. I am interested in forcing the viewer into a situation whereby they become the voyeur.
